Tree Removal From the Beach

This past August and October there were 2 meetings with Mike Fair from the Township. We expressed our desire to regain the ability to walk along the Beach without being entangled in plants, particularly willow trees. We approached the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) and the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation (LHCFCC) to invite them for a walk along the beach so they could see for themselves the problem we were concerned about. The LHCFCC were very cooperative and we had a pleasant walk along the beach. The two young ladies seemed to understand where we were coming from and seemed to agree that the willow and poplar trees should be removed. Unfortunately they are simply an advisory group with no clout. SVCA had no interest in seeing the problem and did not accept our invitation for a walk. They have some jurisdiction over the “dunes” and required the “site plan” that a group of us prepared for them. They are asking for a much more detailed plan.

Brian MacEachern got delegation status and presented to the Township Council a request for removal of trees within 20 feet of the shoreline in the coming Spring. You can read my delegation as well as the Town’s response. I sincerely hope that come Spring we will be able to get the Town to use machinery to remove trees from our shoreline.
